Like so many of you, I went from the highest high of worship on Sunday morning to tears of sadness at the news from a small town church in Texas Sunday night. How can such a tragedy happen? This is one of those rare times when I turn to the book of Lamentations and cry out with Jeremiah, “How lonely sits the city (the church) that once was full of people.” Pray for those families. Pray for that church. Pray for that community. Pray for our world. Pray without ceasing.

Come walk the Gratitude Path with Us

Even in the midst of un-explainable tragedies of life, God is with us. We began a new sermon series this last Sunday based on the theme “Give Thanks.” Come get your free “Gratitude Journal” - we have more now. They are in the baskets around the church. Each day (no matter what happens in the world or in your life,) write three things you are thankful to God for - every day - in your private journal. The one rule is you can never write the same thing twice. The 40 pages (use front and back of each page) will take you right up to the week of Christmas. Join with us in this intentional, disciplined practice of Giving Thanks and just see what happens to your “attitude of Gratitude.” Also, come see who from our congregation appears in the next “gratitude grabs” on the video screens in worship. And mark Sunday, November 26 as Pioneer Day - a day we will GIVE THANKS for all those who have been worshiping with us longer than 7 years. This will be a very special day in the life of our congregation - come GIVE THANKS with us.

Critical Opportunities to Serve

We need communion servers to serve Holy Communion to our homebounds - you serve the same folks once a month on your schedule. We also need two more people to serve in the video recording chair under Robbie Turner guidance at the 11 am worship service. This needs to be a rotation of four people - you will rotate through once per month. Robbie will train you. This role prepares the video that is given to Windstream for cable TV. If you wish to simply know more about either role, please contact Pastor Mark by email at firstumcpastor@windstream.net Please pray about this - both roles are critical!
