We turn the corner this week from Thanksgiving to Advent. Come get caught up in the joy of the new season. I am still “thankful” for all the servant hearts who helped create the Gratitude Graze brunch all morning this last Sunday. I am still “thankful” for everyone who has responded with their 2018 Estimate of Giving Cards (treasure chests will stay out for another couple of weeks.) I am still “thankful” for everyone still writing three things they are thankful to God for in their Gratitude Journals right up to Christmas Eve. I am still “thankful” for all the pioneers of our church we got to “give thanks” for this last Sunday. I am still “thankful” for the trailblazer DNA that formed the wonderful story of FUMC of Union County - a story we told and celebrated this last Sunday. I guess what I am saying is don’t leave your thankfulness behind - bring it with you as we turn into Advent this week! God’s Joy, Pastor Mark

Wednesday, December 6, Holiday Feast: (Put this on your calendar!)

We moved our Thanksgiving Feast to coincide with two others things. We decided to try a “Holiday Feast” located between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year on a Wednesday night so that it does not interfere with other family plans. This is our New Member reception night as well. We will be celebrating roughly 50 new members in calendar 2017. This is also the final Christmas Cantata practice night and we wanted to provide our appreciation to them. Ro & the Robinettes are “doing” this meal this year. We are being given a great gift. The turkey meal, sides, and desserts are all being provided by Ro & the Robinettes. All you bring is “yourself” - that’s it. And this meal is free (no basket will be out for donations - it is a great gift) and open to our community. It is our way of continuing to Give THANKS for what God is doing among us.

Give Thanks, (Lord knows I am!) pastor mark

Parish Nurses Update

We are thankful for our Parish Nursing Ministry at FUMC! Jackie Franklin has recently stepped down after leading this ministry team along with Bambi Wooten and Sharon Willits. Well done servant hearts! We are also thankful for the folks who have stepped forward to continue the legacy of this ministry. Kathy Fain is now the chair of Parish Nursing and Lee Dunham continues as chair of the board that oversees our Parish Nursing ministry.

Critical Service Opportunities: (PLEASE CONSIDER!)

Remember to volunteer to help for “A Night to Shine” - the Tim Tebow Foundation Prom dinner/dance for people with special needs February 9 in our MAC. We also need communion servers to serve Holy Communion to our home bounds - you serve the same person(s) once a month on your schedule. Please help our growing team of servers bring God’s Grace to our members who can no longer come to the Table - help us take the Table to them! We also need two more people to serve in the video recording chair under Robbie Turner’s guidance at the 11 am worship service. This needs to be a rotation of four people - you will rotate through once per month. Robbie will train you. This role prepares the video that is given to Windstream for cable TV. If you wish to simply know more about either role, please contact Pastor Mark by email at firstumcpastor@windstream.net Please pray about this - both roles are critical!
