So much happens so fast through our church. We blink and we move from a Fall Festival for the ages right through a band concert enhanced by a youth fundraiser for missions into a major road project at Church directly into an encouraging movement of the Spirit of God through the people of God as 156 households responded in worship on Sunday – glorifying God through the presentation of their 2019 “Giving Cards.” Add to that a full week of unique and vital mission and ministry kerplunked in the middle of Union County Fall Break week and I guess you have a “typical week” in the ongoing life of our church! My point is that there is no such thing as a “typical week” in the life of our church!

Thank you for being the Church of Jesus Christ. You bring hope into the world. You bring flavor and light into the world. You matter. Thank you.

While we will be moving into a new season of participating in missions that intentionally turn the focus of the church out into the world in the month to come, we have set up the treasure chests we have used in the past in both the MAC Desk area and Narthex along with blank 2019 Estimate of giving cards. If you have not had a chance to respond to this years “HIS Table – Our Light” stewardship journey, you are invited to do so over the next two weeks.

Simply place the name card in one chest and the number card (remember the yes/no questions on the back) in another. It does not matter which card goes in which chest. All that matters is that the two cards go into separate chests. After two weeks, we will celebrate our shared response at all three services. Join with us. Respond with us. Prepare to give thanks with us. And then let us encounter the Holiday Season together with joy!

To God be the glory! (After all, that is the whole point!)

God’s Peace,
pastor mark

Flu Protocols Begin:
We are being very proactive this year. The warm weather has messed up everyone’s calendar - but it is almost mid October! That means we are doing the following things starting last Sunday (some of you noticed)
Reminding everyone that we are in the season of flu shots
Please stay home from Church if you are sick
Re-establish that habit of coughing into your elbow rather than into your hands
We have suspended our hand holding fellowship until Easter Sunday
Be sensitive to those around you during our time of Christian fellowship. We have many people who worship with us with compromised immune systems. There is many ways to pass the peace of Christ without shaking hands - read the actions of the people around you. Be grace filled.

Myron & Brenda Turner’s Grandson Brady will be participating in a Medical Mission Trip to the Amazon. If you would like to support Brady, he is collecting the follow items: Flip Flops (all sizes), Bar Soap, Tooth Brushes, Adult & Children’s Vitamins with Iron, Fishing Line, Lures & Hooks. There will be a collection box in the Narthex.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD: Boxes are still available for you to pick up in the MAC . The list of approved items is there too. Please have boxes returned with the $9 by November 15th.

David Kuykendall will be teaching a North Georgia Conference-approved Chainsaw operation and safety course here on Friday, Nov. 2nd from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm and Saturday, Nov. 3rd beginning at 8:30 am. There will be field demonstration and technique practice on the church campus. This course is a have-to to participate in disaster relief chainsaw work with the Methodist Church. You may also attend if you are interested in chainsaw safety for your own benefit or helping a saw operator clear limbs, move wood, etc. If you’d like further information, please call David Kuykendall at 706 994 0384.

Don’t forget to go through your coat closet and donate any gently used winter coats to the Morning Glory Circle coat collection. They will be distributing out to the community next month. Share the warmth and give a coat.Donations may be placed in the MAC closet across from the reception desk.

The best link to official United Methodist Church Denominational (Global) news comes from a publication from the United Methodist Communications office that you can subscribe to at the following website

On that web page, click the large “Subscribe box.” In the window that comes up, select Weekly Digest under United Methodist News. You then get a summary email from the United Methodist Church sent to you each week regarding the major developments in core stories around the globe. Among many other things, updates on the upcoming Special Session of General Conference in February will be found there. The North Georgia Conference Web site is a good source of continuous information as well -

FUMC MISSIONS FAIR: On Sunday November 18th our church would once again like to shine a spotlight on all the Missions and Ministry operating within our congregation so that members can easily find a place to serve. If you are an advocate for a Mission or Ministry and would like to be included in this event, please email Kim Tatman now in order to have your service included in the literature and planning.

Night to Shine event will be held here at FUMC again next February.

Would you like to be a volunteer for Night to Shine – February 8, 2019? In the coming weeks - watch for a general on-line link to register as a volunteer.

As you do your shopping on AMAZON, you also have the opportunity to donate money to the our church. Simply use AMAZON SMILE, then set up “First United Methodist Church of Union County” as the supporting organization. Once you set it up, every time you place an AMAZON order (must use AMAZON SMILE), Amazon makes a donation to our church. Your same settings and benefits, including Amazon Prime, apply. So we urge you to make the change today. Thanks for your continued support!

Through us God will reach people, touch souls, change hearts, and launch disciples (that’s Church!)
