02-05-2019 FUMC Tuesday Tickle Faith Family: I truly want to thank all of you who have given financial support for and sweat equity for our second annual “A Night to Shine” event for those with special needs. We have our last night of training tonight at 6:30 pm. Because of all you have done, we are ready and I am very thankful. Well done church! Thank you for all the cans during last Sunday’s Youth Soup or Bowl can drive - you have just got to see what you did “together” - come Sunday, we will share. The Burgess family has been down for the count since Sunday afternoon. We are on the mend now but we have had to unplug and crawl under the covers. I am going to delay starting my next session of UM101 on Wednesday nights to Wednesday, February 13 at 6 pm. Please put that date on your calendar if you are interested in a 3-4 week course on where Methodists come from, what drives our theology, our understanding of baptism and Holy Communion, and how we are structured both locally and globally to do mission and ministry. I love telling our story - we have a good story to tell. I invited the entire church this last Sunday to join with me in an intentional month of prayer as General Conference approaches Feb 23-26. The conference is focused on trying to discern a “way forward” for the global United Methodist Denomination on the human sexuality question. We had a great turnout last fall (roughly 120 people) on a Wednesday night presentation when I did my best to bring everyone up to speed with this conversation. Nothing has been decided - nor will be decided - until the conference happens. I ask (regardless of your perspective on this topic) that you join with me (and each other) praying for God’s will to rise up in this conversation when the roughly 860 delegates from around the world meet in St Louis the last week of February. There is more information below on how to stay informed as the conference unfolds below in this tickle if you seek it. And lastly, since I missed the Superbowl, I sure do hope the Rams won by at least 30 points! Special Session of General Conference: February 23-26 in St. Louis Thank you for joining in a season of prayer as we approach the Special Session of General Conference this month. As districts and churches have held conversations , some have asked for resources to share accurate information with your congregation about this event. The conference has also created a special email address specifically for your questions about the session. While we may not have answers to all of them, Bishop Sue will address questions by video.
