8-12-2020 FUMC Words for Wednesday
Status of Union County today is: ORANGE
(see below how this impacts us)
Re-opening Plan
Our reopening task force has worked and are continuing to work hard to plan a phased reopening and guidelines that will allow us to reopen safely and responsibly. We appreciate your support and your patience. Below you can read information about our four phase reopening plan.
Our phases of re-opening are based on hard data from the website
www.globalepidemics.org. This site has a color-coded map based on
a 7-day rolling average of new daily cases in each county.
If Union County is RED, we will return to full building closure. Curbside service will remain available at the office door from 9 am - noon. Outdoor areas will be closed to all groups.
If we are ORANGE, the church office will continue to be open. Church Sanctuary will be open for prayer on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9am - noon. Fellowship Hall and Youth room will be available for use by small groups of 10 or less with social distancing and masks by reservation 7 days in advance. Outdoor areas will be available to groups by reservation through the church office 3 days in advance.
If we are YELLOW, we will hold in-person worship in the MAC with social
distancing and masks and a limited order of worship. Fellowship Hall and
Youth room will be available for use by small groups of 25 or less with social
distancing and masks by reservation 7 days in advance.
· If we are GREEN, we will begin to open other parts of the building to groups
with social distancing and other safety restrictions if needed.
Any worship decisions will be made by
Thursday at noon prior to Sunday.
Please Note!  This will take the guesswork out of our decisions to move forward or to reverse our course. Our priority is to make the best decisions for the health of our congregation. This will also make our process observable by the congregation and the community.
We are collecting food items for the county food pantry. Specifically we need peanut butter and jelly for the pantry. There will be a cart under the MAC portico during office hours where you may drop off these food items. If the cart is missing, just place beside the doors.
We are very grateful for Donna Fredericks and her service as our Nursery Director. She has given of her time tirelessly to ensure our little ones have a safe, inviting, and nurturing environment. Donna is stepping down from the nursery at the end of this month. She and Bill will be doing some travel right away in preparation of having their first grandchild in October.
CEC’s first day is Wednesday, September 9th.
Congratulations go to Cristian Martinez, the son of Tiffany Martinez (our Contemporary pianist). He has signed with Waldorf University in Iowa on a full-ride wrestling scholarship. He will be studying Exercise Science as part of a Pre-physical therapy track. Way to go, Cristian!!
Since we are not able during this challenging time to ask you to stop by the Chapel to pray and tie knots on our prayer quilts, we have a temporary alternative plan to continue this important ministry.
When a request comes in to us for a prayer quilt, we will list the specific information about the recipient here in our weekly newsletter. Then we prayerfully and urgently ask you to stop and take a few minutes to offer prayers for the name(s) listed. Prayers are powerful no matter how offered! Knots on the quilts still will be tied by friends and family on the other end of the journey and will give the recipient further support and thankfulness.
This week we have four requests:
Jason H, Ratz - age 39, electrocuted. He fell 25 ft. down breaking his clavicle and several vertebrae and ribs. His hands were also severely burned. He not only needs prayers for physical healing, but, also for spiritual healing;. He believes that God spared his life and said he would return to church/ return to God.
Kristin Forrest (Tom & Dee Heuker’s daughter) - Liver cancer; having surgery this Thursday, July 30 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, to remove the tumor. Also prayers for her family and young child.
Avery Cartwright - 15 month old boy. Has been on our prayer list for a while. Update: he had 2 tumors removed and is currently taking chemotherapy. He is the child of a friend of Emily and Will Stafford.
Sonya Cristofaro – needs prayers for healing and comfort. She was thrown off a horse and has a fractured sacrum, a brain bruise and some internal related issues.
Philippians 4:6-7
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
For any questions or information or requests, please call Margaret Frizzell 706-745-3197.
