11-23-2022 FUMC Words for Wednesday

O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,

for his steadfast love endures forever.

O give thanks to the God of gods,

for his steadfast love endures forever.

O give thanks to the Lord of lords,

for his steadfast love endures forever;

who alone does great wonders,

for his steadfast love endures forever;

who by understanding made the heavens,

for his steadfast love endures forever;

who spread out the earth on the waters,

for his steadfast love endures forever;

who made the great lights,

for his steadfast love endures forever;

the sun to rule over the day,

for his steadfast love endures forever;

the moon and stars to rule over the night,

for his steadfast love endures forever…

O give thanks to the God of heaven,

for his steadfast love endures forever.

- Psalm 136

May you know and name the blessings of God as you celebrate Thanksgiving this week. His steadfast love endures forever.

In Christ,

Don

Operation Turkey Tree Update:

FirstYouth would like to thank the congregation for supporting our Operation Turkey Tree mission this year. We were graciously able to provide ten meals to the local dialysis center on Monday, as well as provide meals to two additional families. Thank you all for your generosity! We do have one extra turkey. If anyone knows of a family in need, please email April at april.leigh27@gmail.com to schedule pickup or delivery.

FirstKids & FirstYouth are putting together a parade float & will be participating in Blairsville’s Christmas Parade on December 3rd at 6 PM. Our float theme will be “Jesus… Best. Gift. Ever.” and our children will be on the float as a live nativity setting - costumes & all! We have the costumes, but could use a few other donations to put together the float:

•Tons of white Christmas lights (different sizes are welcome!)

•Wood 2×4’s to build our stable

•A large star to place on top of the stable. (Light up would be great! But not necessary.)

•A lot of sparkly garland (we’d like to line the entire float with this around the bottom)

•Someone skilled in making banners to create 2 for either side of the float (we don’t need this finished until Dec 2)

•Fake snow and ”snow sheets” to cover the float & hay bales.

•Some hay bales for sitting (we already have a few!)

•Lots of candy donations & treat bags to hand out in the parade. (Please place these on the counter in the Youth kitchen downstairs!)

If you have any of these items, please email April at april.leigh27@gmail.com to schedule pickup or delivery as soon as possible. We’d love to start working on the float this weekend! Thank you!

Please mark your calendars for our church’s Holiday Meal scheduled

for Wednesday, December 7th. Ro & the Robinettes will be providing the turkey, dressing, rolls and scalloped potatoes. The rest is up to you so bring your favorite salads, sides, and desserts to share.

SIGN-UP FOR THE HOLDIAY MEAL IS REQUIRED. Sign up sheets will be outside the worship services. Deadline to sign up is December 4th.

FROM THE DISCERNMENT TEAM:

Thank you to everyone for your patience, prayers and faithfulness during this time of change and discernment. Below is a schedule which has been developed to address the United Methodist matters ahead of us:

December 2022    This is Advent Season where we reflect on preparing our hearts and homes for Christ’s birth. It is a time for faith communities and families to remember, through prayer, reflections, special music, and good deeds what the true meaning of Jesus’ birth is. So please take the Advent season to consider how we commemorate the birth of Jesus.

Early January 2023                        Townhall Meeting addressing Remaining United Methodist (“non” disaffiliation”)

Late January 2023                         Church Council meeting to determine whether to proceed with application to disaffiliate, or to remain United Methodist (remaining requires no further action)

IF THE DECISION IS MADE TO APPLY FOR DISAFFILIATION:

February 28, 2023                         Deadline for submission to District Superintendent of application for disaffiliation

After March 1, 2023                     District Superintendent schedules church conference

May 31 to June 3, 2023               North Georgia United Methodist Church Annual Conference to consider all applications for disaffiliation

All Townhall meetings will be held in the MAC. Also, they will all be recorded and available for viewing on YouTube.

Please submit in writing any questions you may have and place them in the “treasure chest” either outside the MAC or outside the Sanctuary. In order to assure that the presenters are adequately prepared, all questions must be submitted no later than the Thursday prior to a Townhall meeting.
