03-13-2024 FUMC Words for Wednesday
Today’s article introduces the last two areas of ministry that outline what we are striving to accomplish in 2024.

INTENTIONAL FAITH DEVELOPMENT

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” Colossians 3:16

Through faith development we grow closer to God. Whether it is by learning, sharing, or reflecting, our faith grows stronger. Faith development is important at all ages. Children’s and Youth ministries are two foundational areas that can make a major difference in a person’s life. Learning the stories of the Bible, Vacation Bible School, spiritual retreats, and mission trips are all a part Intentional Faith Development at First Methodist.

However, this ministry is not only for our children and youth. Adult Bible studies, Sunday School, and devotional materials such as The Upper Room are ways in which we continue our development and growth into our adult years. Since this Fall, over 50 people have been involved in weekly Bible study. But we would like to make room for more!

Through Intentional Faith Development we grow in our faith and knowledge of God’s Word. We foster the spiritual formation of our children and youth so they can be strong in their faith. And we provide resources to guide you as you walk in faith. To offer all of this and more, we need your support.

Our Intentional Faith Development budget for 2024 is $147,696.00.

(This total includes children and youth directors’ salaries, a percentage of the pastor’s salary package, utilities, mortgage, insurance, janitorial services, technical support and equipment, and support staff.)

RISK-TAKING MISSION AND SERVICE

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Acts 1:8

Missions and service to others is faith in action. It is through this area of ministry that we address the needs of others. No matter whether it is within our community or beyond, we are called to share the Gospel in word and deed.

One area in which we address the needs of parents in our community is through our Childrens Enrichment Center or CEC. It has been a missional ministry of this church for over 25 years. Not only do children receive a strong educational foundation, but they receive it in a Christian environment and learn of God’s love for them and hear the stories of the Bible.

We host fund raising events such as the Supper Chef Showdown, so Hope House can continue to meet the needs of people in our community and surrounding areas. We support and host the Backpack to School event that provides school supplies to students in need.

We also help provide scholarships, support Africa University, support missions and missionaries across the globe, and provide for disaster relief assistance wherever it is needed in the world.

To offer all of this and more, to touch lives through Risk-Taking Mission and Service and give honor and glory to God in the ways that bring Christ into the lives of others and touches their needs, we need your support.

Our Risk-Taking Mission and Service budget for 2024 is $300,488.00.

(This total includes CEC director salary, utilities, mortgage, insurance, janitorial services, paper products, a percentage of the pastor’s salary package, and denominational giving.)

Will you help us in providing Intentional Faith Development and Risk-Taking Mission and Service?

To God be the glory!

Jimmy

REALM CONNECT APP

We are launching a new app called REALM CONNECT. Through this app, church membership can have easy access to a “live” church directory, active contribution statements, and live chats with others. Over the next few weeks, you will receive an email that has a link in it on how to sign up with Connect (app). Please follow the instructions on how to set up your account. Your user name is your email address. You will choose your own password but there are specifics things you have to have in your password. Please read those specs before you start inputting one in. Once you have successfully signed up, then download the Realm Connect app. Once you have that, you will sign in. You have the ability to edit the information and can also insert a photo. We encourage you to do this since this will be the directory. If you scroll down your info page, you will see “Directory”. Click on it and you will see others already in there. Check it out. We have been doing a soft launch with church leaders and SS teachers. If you have difficulty, please seek someone out who has already signed up or drop by the church office for help.
