The Greatness and Genius of America

French writer Alexis de Tocqueville, after visiting America in 1831, said,

“I sought for the greatness and genius of America in her commodious harbors and her ample rivers, and it was not there. I sought for the greatness and genius of America in her fertile fields and boundless forests, and it was not there. I sought for the greatness and genius of America in her rich mines and her vast world commerce, and it was not there. I sought for the greatness and genius of America in her public school system and her institutions of learning, and it was not there. I sought for the greatness and genius of America in her democratic Congress and her matchless Constitution, and it was not there. Not until I went into the churches of America and heard her pulpits flame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power. America is great because she is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, she will cease to be great.”

Rev. Peter Marshall, chaplain of the U.S. Senate from 1947 to 1949 gave this prayer before the Senate,

“Lord Jesus, thou who art the way, the truth, and the life; hear us as we pray for the truth that shall make all free. Teach us that liberty is not only to be loved but also to be lived. Liberty is too precious a thing to be buried in books. It costs too much to be hoarded. Help us see that our liberty is not the right to do as we please, but the opportunity to please to do what is right.”

Pray that Americans will do what is right and good in God’s eyes. May our lives be witnesses and blessings to people in other nations as they learn about our reliance on God and his faithfulness.

May God Bless America!

Jimmy

There will be no games, no supper and no Bible Study tonight (3rd)

due to the 4th holiday tomorrow.

 Backpack to School Bash

will take place on our campus on Saturday, August 3rd. If you’d like to donate to it, you may drop a check in the offering plate noted: Backpack. You may also donate actual school supplies (see list beside). You may place your donations in the box in the MAC. The Backpack event supplies families with school-age children a backpack with the necessary, school required, supplies that can be a financial burden for many parents.

Families wanting to sign up may do so before July 19th at https://sites.google.com/view/backpack-2-school-bash/register.

Volunteers are also needed on the 3rd. If you can help, just show up that morning by 9:30.

There will be a church-wide Church Conference on Sunday, July 28th at 2 pm in the sanctuary. The conference will vote on the selling of some acreage to address the MAC debt. All members are encouraged to attend.

Our tech booths are needing more volunteers.

You don’t have to have tech experience. We only ask for a willingness to serve and learn. You would be asked to serve only once a month in the service of your choice.

Contact Jeremy Bruce at 214 435 1878.

Any member or regular attender who wishes to be have our church app, Realm Connect, please contact the church office to receive an “invite”.

please let the office or Paula Myers know.
