Tickle – October 10, 2017

I thank everyone who came to church on Sunday in the midst of what was the remnants of hurricane Nate passing through us. In the Sunday to come, we will continue our four week sermon series encountering Scriptures that help form our purpose statement here at FUMC, “Through us God will reach people, touch souls, change hearts, and launch disciples.” Our focus this coming Sunday will be touching souls.

Also part of this Sunday will be a conversation about security here at FUMC. We are implementing some new measures that will impact how you get into the campus buildings after October 22 and other added security measures. Please come and share in these details.

Can’t wait to help out in the Fall Festival this coming Friday (9 am - 4 pm) and Saturday (9 am - 2 pm). If you have not found a place to help volunteer, contact Stan Wallace at stanwallace@windstream.net - he can guide you to the contact point of the right group for you to help. I know the United Methodist Men are still looking for some help. Come help us reach people and if you are real lucky touch a soul! Contact Stan, he will direct you to the point of contact.

There are no Wednesday Night program or activities because of the Fall Festival on Friday and Saturday.

Welcome our newest members:
Neal Wiley and Kathy Fain Wiley 306 Choestoe Lane, Blairsville, GA 30512

Campus Care Tuesday: The Trustees are coordinating a “Campus Care” day for everyone who can come on Tuesday, October 17. We hope to have coordinators here who can help guide folks towards pulling weeds, weed eating, bush trimming, that sort of thing. If you like working outside and can give us one or two hours Tuesday morning, we will be here from 8 am to 11 am to help the dear hearts who have already been giving of their time to care for our church campus. Bring gloves, tools, whatever you think would be helpful. We need to clean some of the low gutters around the church too if you are willing. Goodwyn Bryan is coordinating this event for the Trustees.

Hello all, this is Goodwin. I need help for the project on the 17th. Could those of you coming to help, meet me at the workshop at 7:00 am on the 17th. I need area leaders to watch over what needs to be done in each area. I have instructions and a map of the areas. I just need to go over it with whomever is willing to do so. Thanks,

Tickle – October 3, 2017

We weep at the events that make no sense. We cry for those families who were touched by the recent horrible mass shooting event in Las Vegas. But we are not defined by events like this; rather, we are defined by how we respond to events like this. “Pray without ceasing.” Continue to put yourself out there to make the world a better place. Let nothing deter you. Do not let this event change your identity as a child of Hope. Reflect the Light in all seasons.

I will begin a new sermon series this Sunday that engages the following defining statement we use in the life of our church: “Through us GOD WILL reach people, touch souls, change hearts. and launch disciples.” We will encounter “reaching people” this Sunday. This series builds each week on the previous week so it will be important to be present this Sunday.

Tickle – September 26, 2017

Just wanted to say thank you to the combined efforts of everyone involved last Wednesday (Ro & the Robinettes, United Methodist Men, and many United Methodist Women who helped make desserts.) That fundraiser meal was aimed at helping raise funds to purchase an additional campus mower. Our fleet of yard tractors are aging and it is time to add a new mower. The UMM have contributed $3,000 toward that cause. On Wed night, many more generous people contributed another $1,500 during the fundraiser. THANK YOU!
In addition Rev. Rod McClarnon’s multi week Wednesday night teaching series on “Whose Plan is it Anyway?” which continues this Wednesday, I will be offering another UM101 class on how our Local Church is organized from 6 pm to 7 pm in the lower level of the MAC - corner Youth Room. This session would be great for people new to the our church, new to the United Methodist Church, new members (and people considering joining), and everyone moving into a new leadership / committee position on January 1.
So far, we have sold 55 of those “It is WELL with my Soul” t-shirts. On the back, the t-shirts are an invitation to “Come to THE WELL” here at FUMC using our logo. By wearing the shirt, you are helping us get the word out to our community about this service. You can order a short sleeve or long sleeve shirt. The cost is $16 for either shirt. If you wish to order, simply email Teri McGinnis atterimcg@gmail.com

The role offers $15/hr - repetitive installation of panels in a large field not far from our church. If you are interested (or know someone who is) call Robert Korpi at 404-934-7064. The job is now.

It’s good to be back home. As we look to the week that is coming, please come help the United Methodist Men raise money to purchase an additional yard tractor this Wednesday night. There is a group of men who mow all the grass and maintain the equipment. It is time to purchase one additional lawnmower. The UMM have already contributed $3000 to that cause - all help will be appreciated.

Also, two of the people (Kenny Engle and Pastor Mark) who went on the week long mission trip to Red Bird Kentucky will be doing a picture presentation in the Sanctuary for anyone who might be interested in any future missions trip to any location and to folks who just want to see what this trip was all about - you will hear our shared experiences into what it is like to walk beyond your comfort zone to serve God.

This coming Sunday is the Deborah Polston presentation on a growing social concern in our world - the problem of human trafficing. Deborah will be doing the mission moment at all three services this Sunday in preparation for her presentation at 2 pm in the Sanctuary.

Lastly, several people have asked about those “It is WELL with my Soul” t-shirts. On the back, the t-shirts are an invitation to “Come to THE WELL” here at FUMC. You can order a short sleeve or long sleeve shirt. The cost is $16 for either shirt. If you wish to order, simply email Teri McGinnis at terimcg@gmail.com
