Tickle – November 13, 2018

Faith Family: (Watch for the December Newsletter!)
On behalf of your FUMC of Union County South Georgia Chainsaw Mission Team, thank you for the prayers, goodies, and support. We are all back and everyone is ok (sore - but ok!) You will hear the story in the weeks to come as best as we can tell it. God is there with all those people who are still in shock from those storms that devastated their community. Forgive us if we struggle to find words. It was just heart rendering and honestly, we are all a little shocked too. Thank you Mission Committee for helping to equip this trip! We helped six locations - but they have a long, long way to go. Thank you Church for all your giving to the General Fund so that our Mission Committee could send us.

As we turn to the week ahead, I encourage EVERYONE to be at Church again this Sunday. We will continue our GET UP AND GO theme for November with our annual Missions fair in the Fellowship Hall Sunday morning. Anytime after the 8:30 am worship service, please come by and browse the mission opportunities on display this year. There will be sign up lists (and light finger food) if you wish to participate or just know more. There may even be a person sitting at the table to answer your questions. Walk, talk, then GET UP AND GO if you have yet to find your mission through the life of this church!

Conference Emergency Response Teams:
We have several updates and a “Save the Date” for you.

The Alabama-West Florida Conference is now accepting out-of-conference ERT Teams who are badged and 100% self-contained (bring your own food, water, gasoline and either have your own housing/lodging or enter and leave the same day). Team leaders can register at the Alabama-West Florida Conference’s new online portal at: https://awfumc.churchcenter.com/registrations/events/172557

In the South Georgia Conference, electricity is starting to return to the affected area. The Conference has issued a call for ERTs and volunteers to help with debris cleanup and tarping roofs. Only the team leader must be a current ERT. The work is primarily in Decatur, Seminole, Miller, Baker, Mitchell, Randolph, and Dougherty counties. There are local churches and other buildings with space for your team to spend the night. Team leaders are asked to register their team at:
https://sgaumc-reg.brtapp.com/DisasterResponseTeam71

THANK YOU for your church and your praying, giving, and going in disaster response ministry this fall! Our North Georgia teams are making significant contributions in North Carolina, South Carolina, South Georgia, and Florida as we assist our neighbors in response to hurricanes Florence and Michael. Continue to help, and to get more people prepared to help, by pointing them to training for the winter quarter at:
https://www.ngumc.org/disasterresponseministry

Lastly, save the date for Saturday, February 16, when we’ll host a North Georgia Disaster Academy at Salem Campground near Covington!
More details and registration will be coming in weeks ahead as we offer a variety of beginner and renewal ERT plus advanced training including chainsaw and other specialized classes. We’ll have different churches showing their trailers and plenty of networking. The Dacula UMC food trunk will be with us showing what they can do. This will be a great meetup for both veteran and rookie disaster response ministry folk.

Blessings,
Scott

Yes, another new lighthouse appeared this last Sunday. It was lovingly created by the Union County High School Metal work shop for our Finance team in support of our Stewardship journey this year! That lighthouse at the MAC desk will draw you to the blank 2019 “Estimate of Giving” cards. As you fill one out, put one small card (remembering the yes/no questions on the back) into one of the treasure chests and the card with your household name into the other chest - totally confidential! We received another 22 cards this last Sunday - so it is not too late to participate. Use either the treasure chests at the new lighthouse located at the MAC desk or the treasure chests in the Sanctuary Narthex. Thank you so much for your response this year. To God be the Glory!

Tickle – October 23, 2018

So much happens so fast through our church. We blink and we move from a Fall Festival for the ages right through a band concert enhanced by a youth fundraiser for missions into a major road project at Church directly into an encouraging movement of the Spirit of God through the people of God as 156 households responded in worship on Sunday – glorifying God through the presentation of their 2019 “Giving Cards.” Add to that a full week of unique and vital mission and ministry kerplunked in the middle of Union County Fall Break week and I guess you have a “typical week” in the ongoing life of our church! My point is that there is no such thing as a “typical week” in the life of our church!

Thank you for being the Church of Jesus Christ. You bring hope into the world. You bring flavor and light into the world. You matter. Thank you.

While we will be moving into a new season of participating in missions that intentionally turn the focus of the church out into the world in the month to come, we have set up the treasure chests we have used in the past in both the MAC Desk area and Narthex along with blank 2019 Estimate of giving cards. If you have not had a chance to respond to this years “HIS Table – Our Light” stewardship journey, you are invited to do so over the next two weeks.

Simply place the name card in one chest and the number card (remember the yes/no questions on the back) in another. It does not matter which card goes in which chest. All that matters is that the two cards go into separate chests. After two weeks, we will celebrate our shared response at all three services. Join with us. Respond with us. Prepare to give thanks with us. And then let us encounter the Holiday Season together with joy!

To God be the glory! (After all, that is the whole point!)

God’s Peace,
